Eguzki is the main character of my personal project, ARIMA, which is inspired by Basque culture and folklore.
She was an ordinary village girl who worked at her parents’ dairy until a fatal accident took her life. Having been born in a coastal village whose local culture venerates the goddess of the sea, the deity responsible for the creation of all life, her parents made a deal with her to bring their daughter back. Eguzki was brought back to life, but in exchange, she was destined to serve the gods until her debt was paid. The goddess of the sea imprisoned Eguzki’s soul in a wooden articulated body made from a sacred tree, which endowed her with magical abilities so she could carry out the gods’ commands and fulfill their wishes.
